Liverpool are preparing for their Premier League opener against Newcastle with concerns over squad depth. Manager Andoni Iraola has said the club will make further signings before the September 1 transfer deadline.
The Reds are looking for more options after several changes to their squad. The club also needs to improve its attacking and defensive depth before the transfer window closes.
Liverpool expect more transfer activity
Iraola has promised more transfer activity as Liverpool prepare for the new Premier League season. He said some deals may only be completed near the end of the transfer window.
“We will definitely sign some players,” Iraola told Sky Sports, according to the information provided. “Some deals you have to wait until the end.”
Liverpool have already added Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona. The defender arrived after Joe Gomez suffered an injury during pre-season.
The club also has concerns at right-back because of Conor Bradley’s fitness problems. These issues have increased the need for further defensive cover.
Endrick rejects Liverpool approach
Liverpool also tried to strengthen their attack by targeting Real Madrid forward Endrick. The 20-year-old Brazilian spent last season on loan at Lyon.
Endrick reportedly scored eight goals and provided eight assists in 21 appearances for Lyon. However, ESPN reported that he rejected Liverpool’s approaches.
The forward is understood to want to compete for a place at Real Madrid. He faces strong competition from several attacking players at the Spanish club.
Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe are expected to remain key players. Yan Diomande has also joined the competition after a reported £100 million move, while Rodrygo is part of the club’s plans when fit.
Liverpool turn focus to Newcastle
Liverpool must now focus on their Premier League opener against Newcastle. The match will be their first league game of the new campaign.
Away from the pitch, the club’s recruitment team will continue working before the September 1 deadline. Liverpool are expected to remain active as they look for more depth.
For Iraola, adding attacking and defensive options remains a priority. The club will have until the transfer deadline to complete further deals.
