JSW MG Motor India has launched the Hector Tomahawk PHEV with a starting price of Rs 25.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV is also offered with a Battery-as-a-Service option, with a lower upfront price of Rs 21.79 lakh and a battery rental charge of Rs 3.20 per km.

The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is based on the ADAPT platform. It uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated Atkinson cycle petrol engine. The engine produces 101 BHP and 125 Nm of torque.

The petrol engine works with a 20.5 kWh battery and an electric motor. The electric motor produces 198 BHP and 237 Nm of torque. Together, the system is designed to offer different ways to use petrol and electric power.

Four Driving Modes

The SUV has four driving modes: EV, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Engine Direct Drive. In EV mode, the electric motor drives the wheels. In Series Hybrid mode, the petrol engine recharges the battery.

In Parallel Hybrid mode, the engine and electric motor both power the wheels. In Engine Direct Drive mode, the engine drives the wheels directly to help reduce energy losses. The vehicle can select the most suitable mode based on driving conditions.

Electric Range and Total Range

MG claims the Hector Tomahawk PHEV can travel more than 115 km in pure electric mode. With a full fuel tank and a fully charged battery, the company claims a total range of more than 1,100 km.

Charging options include a 3.3 kW AC charger. MG says this charger can charge the battery from 10% to 100% in 7.5 hours. A 25 kW DC charger can charge the battery from 30% to 80% in 35 minutes.

Hector Tomahawk PHEV Price and BaaS Option

The Battery-as-a-Service option gives buyers a lower starting price. The battery is instead covered through a rental charge of Rs 3.20 per km. This option is available alongside the standard purchase price.

The new Hector Tomahawk PHEV combines a petrol engine with electric drive and a large battery. Its electric range, hybrid modes and BaaS option are the key details for buyers comparing the SUV with other powertrain choices.
